Mobile Internet option for your RTK* corrections service

The SiM card allows your equipment to access the mobile internet so that it can then connect to Orpheon network services. Technically the operation of the Sim card and the operation of your subscription are independent of each other. Your subscription is not installed or materialized in the SiM card but only in your equipment.

The quality of the mobile Internet connection is therefore a major criterion for the positioning quality of your GPS.

One of the essential parameters for the transmission of Mobile Internet data by telephony is above all to ensure that your work area is covered by an operator (Orange, SFR, Bouygues). But you must also take into account the applications you will need because the SIM card is the means of transmitting many other information which opens up to other uses than that of geo-positioning corrections of the Orpheon network.

Once the operator has been determined, there is the possibility of optionally subscribing to one or more of the 3 different types of SIM cards that we offer depending on the use you are planning.

Technically:

Given their specific professional use for which the importance of the data transmitted can be essential and a priority, used in particular in the medical field, these transmissions have the highest availability rate and national coverage among all operators, guaranteeing optimum operation. . Dedicated technical support from operators is also available to know the status of the network and the connection in real time. However, it is important to properly size the amount of data adapted to the intended use.

Technically:

These professional transmissions have a higher availability rate than consumer SIM cards. They have an unlimited transmission capacity which allows access to different applications. Generally these cards offer a few GB then they switch to limited speed but this does not cut or disturb the geo-positioning corrections and allows you to continue working without worries.

The white areas of telephony

These areas not served by a telephone network continue to decline following the third coverage plan launched in 2015 by the State. But it may be that a work area is only partially covered by a single operator (grey area). To overcome this drawback, there are multi-operator type SIM cards giving the possibility of switching from one operator to another: the switch may or may not be automatic depending on the equipment used. Generally the prices of these subscriptions are higher than standard subscriptions. It is also possible that depending on the formula chosen, the monthly amount varies according to actual consumption.

Check your mobile internet coverage?

In order to determine what is the level of coverage for your mobile internet access in the area in which you wish to work, there are two official sites

1/ The ARCEP website:

This site will allow you to determine the quality of coverage of an area depending on the operator selected. The area can be searched by municipality. It also helps to determine which operator best covers the area.

2/ the ANFR website

This site allows you to view the location of the relay antennas of the telephone operators (among others) Which can allow you to determine more precisely the quality of coverage of an area depending on the selected operator and the distance with the ‘cell tower. The area can be searched by municipality.

Access to Orpheon services is via an internet connection. The SUBSCRIBER is free to choose the connection mode and the telecom operator that suits him best without limitation.

Géodata Diffusion offers, as part of its Subscriptions and packages, the possibility of subscribing at any time to various GPRS options (generic term used for mobile internet connection) including the supply of SIM cards without obligation to purchase. The purpose of supplying these SIM cards is to facilitate the SUBSCRIBER’s supply procedures with its historical partners. Géodata Diffusion cannot be held responsible for the quality of connections or services offered by telecom operators.

As part of the subscription to the GPRS option (only available for metropolitan France), a SIM card belonging to Géodata Diffusion will be provided to the SUBSCRIBER according to the terms of the Subscription contract.

This card can only be used on metropolitan national territory to allow the user to connect to the ORPHEON service by GPRS depending on the coverage of the ORANGE and SFR networks concerned (no voice calls, no international data communications and no WiFi) and depending on the performance of the hardware used.

The supply of this card cannot be accompanied by the supply of a modem subsidized by the operator. For the supply of such equipment (PCMCIA card, Compact Flash card or conventional telephone connected to the GNSS rover by Bluetooth), the SUBSCRIBER is asked to contact his DISTRIBUTOR.

When using a SIM card, SUBSCRIBER agrees:

  • To return this SIM card upon simple written request from Geodata Diffusion, failing which the latter may automatically have this card deactivated 15 days after its request has had no effect.
  • Notify Géodata Diffusion as soon as possible in the event of loss or theft or possible malfunction, responsibility for the proper use of this card rests with the SUBSCRIBER.

The SUBSCRIBER acknowledges that the use of the SIM card may engage his own liability with the competent authorities in the event of fraudulent or illicit use on the Internet. In this regard, Géodata Diffusion strongly urges the SUBSCRIBER to put themselves in a position to be able to provide the identity of the people to whom this card has been entrusted in order to be able to prove their good faith.

If one or more SIM cards have been activated, they remain the property of Géodata Diffusion and as such they must be returned by the SUBSCRIBER within 30 days from the end of 12 months from the date subscription of the last plan or after the effective date of the termination of a Subscription. In the event of non-return, a penalty of €100 excluding tax per SIM card will be applied and invoiced to the SUBSCRIBER.

Find below the various information for setting up the APNs, identifiers and passwords so that your equipment can connect to the internet using the SFR or Orange SIM card that you ordered from Géodata Diffusion.

Enter these parameters in your equipment in the communication part (GSM-GPRS refer to the technical documentation of your equipment).

You will then have to configure the parameters for the connection to the Orpheon network with your username and password (see delivery note)

Below you will find information that we think will be useful for the use of the SIM cards of the various operators that we supply.

Important: depending on the type of card or the age of the contract, the Roaming option must be activated

For many years at Geodata Diffusion we have been providing our customers with SIM cards. Since then, the legislation and invoicing rules for the Roaming Europe option have changed a great deal. Some of the cards delivered before these changes did not have the Europe option activated because at the time this option was chargeable and led to significant additional costs for exceeding the package. Today these options have become free and no longer generate unpleasant surprises.

In general, roaming at national rates, which allows you to use your mobile plan from abroad without being surcharged, only applies to occasional use. Your consumption from France must be the majority.

Could I use my mobile Internet volume in the European zone?

You can use your monthly mobile Internet volume both in the European zone and in mainland France(1).
For example, if your package includes 5 GB of internet and you use 2 GB while working in Germany, you will have 3 GB of your package left when you return to France. If your mobile Internet volume runs out, one of the following pricing conditions will apply until the date your plan is reset (depending on the mobile offer you have):
– reduced flow,
– blocking your blocked mobile internet,
– off-package at the rate applicable in mainland France.

Access to the Orpheon network

It should also be noted that mobile internet access abroad does not systematically give access to the Orphéon network. For this, reference should be made to the network coverage area (Metropolitan France and the West Indies).

To simplify, the Roaming Europe option is mainly useful for our customers working on the edge of borders, when their equipment “terminal” on a relay in the neighboring country. For remote countries, it will be necessary to take out an RTK subscription in the country concerned (example in England, Poland, etc.). We also recommend that you take out an RTK SmartNet subscription.

For Orange SIM cards:

Since October 1, 2019, automatically and without changing the offer: you have nothing to do!

These changes apply automatically and free of charge to your plan.
